What Causes Chest Pain After Recovering From Pneumonia?
hi. My husband was hospitalized in November due to pneumonia. From that time on he has been experiencing chest pains which prevents him from getting a sound sleep. He almost passes out whenever he coughs or sneezes due to the pain on his lower right chest. He says its like an extreme stabbing pain whenever he coughs/sneezes. He has been to the doctor a few times and he s been given all sorts of pain medication. He gets relief but only for a very short while whenever the doctors prescribes new med for the paid but overall he is still experiencing the same issue. We researched online and it can possibly be pleurisy but we re not sure.
Hello! I have reviewed your query. The pain on his lower right chest may be a muscular pain or a referred pain from his lungs due to inflammation probably secondary to an ongoing infection. As you have stated he had Pneumonia but the fact that he had been discharged from the hospital may mean that the ongoing infection has been treated already. For this I suggest he subject himself for a chest x-ray APL view for further evaluation since pain medications has not been effective in totally relieving him, he may had a recurrence of an infection. I suggest follow up after chest x-ray has been done.
Hope this helps, thank you!
