What Causes Chest Pain Upon Bending Down While Suffering From GERD?

I have been diagnosed with GERD. I am currently taking carafate 1Gm and Pantoprazole Sodium. I have ulcers on my stomach and throat. Recently, when I bend over it feels like something is in my chest and moves to the top of my chest and I can barely breathe and it hurts. I don t know what it is.

Hi,

Chronic reflux can lead to the development of esophageal ulceration /erosive esophagitis (eventually stricture formation) and since it hurts, it is related to regurgitate acid coming in contact with mucosal ulceration. Bending over only inreases intra-abdominal pressure and facilitates regurgitation. Addition of prokinetic medication such as domperidone may help.

With chest pain, however, cardiac disease (Ischemic heart disease) must be carefully considered.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
