What Causes Chocking Sensation On Lying Despite Having Hashimoto And High Thyroid Levels?

Hallo. This winter I wasn t feeling very good, my temperature was very low (around 34 Celsius) and the doctor told me that I should do blood tests. Well I did and it came out that I have high Thyroid numbers. So I did an ultrasound and my thyroid seemed a little bit swollen but ok. Doctors told me I have Hashimoto. Anyways the last few days I have a chocking feeling when lying down. I searched it on Google and it seems that my thyroid is swollen. What should I do? Should I see my doctor again? Do I have to take pills?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Goiter (enlarged thyroid gland) induced chocking sensation. Based on the history given in your query you seem to be suffering from hypothyroidism (decreased thyroid hormone levels and increase TSH levels). The choking sensation appears to be due to the goiter causing pressure over the airways in the neck. I advise you to consult your doctor for further evaluation and possible surgery to relieve the symptoms.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
