my mother is 88. she went 2 the er where they said she had acute constipation. they sent her home taking a cap full of miralax for 14 days. shes on day 8. she said she is having pencil stools. what is that n relation 2 her diagnosis? she has had a few bowel movements, soft but formed. but not these pencil stools
- drink plenty of fluids - Avoid coffee - diet rich in fiber like fruits and vegetables - diet rich in probiotics like yogurt - avoid coffee - bulk forming laxative like psyllium - stool softeners like dulcolax
Persistent constipation and pencil like stools definitely warrant stool analysis and colonoscopy.
