My husband was hospitalized 5 days ago with a diagnosis of Congestive Heart Failure. Since returning home, he has developed a terrible hacking wet cough. He is constantly spitting up mucus resembling white cotton balls. His cough is so bad, he has difficulty eating and sleeping. Yesterday, Saturday, we spoke with his internist s PA who prescribed Benzonatate. After taking one pill, he is still coughing but not coughing up mucus. We wonder if that is good because he still has the mucus in his chest. Please give us your advice.
