Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 10 year old son who often complains of pain in his heels and hips when he runs; and therefor avoids activity. His gait has become increasingly worse, and walks like he is sqeezing his butt. As a young boy he often had fevers of 105 degrees followed soon after with respiratory infections. His pediatrician would treat him with rocefin via iv drip. These incidents would occur every 6-8 weeks for nearly 7 years. We did see infectious disease and upon testing him gave him prevnar 13 when his pneumocachal count was low. Since then, age 8, his fevers and respiratory issues have lessened and we rarely encounter issue. He however has grown into pain in his hips and heel, and I have no idea what it could be or if I should be concerned. I don t know what questions to bring to his pediatrician either.
Hip pain and heel pain are most probably 2 different entities. The following are causes of hip pain in a child: 1) Transient synovitis 2) Hip dysplasia 3) Arthritis 4) Legg-Calve-Perthes disease 5) Slipped capital femoral epiphyses 6) Infections of hip joint leading to septic arthritis
The following are causes of heel pain in a child: 1) Sever's disease 2) Plantar fasciitis 3) Injury 4) Achilles tendinitis 5) Juvenile rheumatoid Arthritis
In my opinion, your child needs to be thoroughly examined by a pediatrician in person. If necessary few tests like X-rays may be done for arriving at accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Please do consult a pediatrician. Until then you can give acetaminophen 250mg twice daily.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
