What Causes Chronic Pain In The Throat?

I am having an odd pain just above my adams apple. On the inside of the throat. I am seeing a ent doctor (who while never looked in my mouth feels its a viral infection.) i also have terrible pressure headaches. But my throat has me worried. More i talk the more it hurts. Its not the normal sore throat pain. This is a pain thats always there. Worse upon movement. I am a smoker and fear the possibility of the something malignant.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for the query.
If you have incidence of cough and fever along with throat ache, then it might point towards infective cause.
If you hv noticed hoarse voice or change in the tone of voice, then it can be due to laryngeal nodule. Consult an ENT specialist for the same.
Regarding the doubt about malignancy, it is better you take ENT specialists' opinion

Thank you.
