Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
For the past 4 months I have severe pain in my throat. If I touch directly above where an Adam s apple would be, it is very tender and the pain radiates to the right side of my neck. It last for about 3 or 4 days with very painful swallowing and sticking my tongue out is also very painful. It will then go away completely, but always returns after 2 or 3 weeks. I just saw an ENT specialist. He did an ultra sound which showed nothing so he said I most likely have reflux causing this pain. He is also scheduling me to have my esophagus looked at. I do not feel this is reflux at all, but I don t know what else to ask about or research. No one I know who has reflux has a tender spot in their throat like me or can t stick out their tongue, etc. Do you have any idea on what this can be. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

What Causes Chronic Pain In The Throat?
Hello, It could be pharyngitis (inflammation of throat). As first line management, you can do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief. A short course of antibiotics can also be considered. If symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and evaluated. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
