What Causes Chronic Radiating Pain From Pelvic Bone To Lower Back?

I had just noticed a very, painful section going from my hipbone area, to love-handle and onto my lower back (like a big continuous stretch). It feels severely bruised but there is no discoloration. It hurts without even touching it, let alone more when I do. I did not run into anything. It is so painful that I could cry. What can this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Chronic pain radiating from the hip to lower back is commonly due to sciatica, slipped disc, degenerative changes in the spine, herniated discs, tendonitis, RA, OA, etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an orthopedic doctor, get blood, urinalysis and imaging tests (X-ray, CT, MRI) done to detect the factor causing you discomfort so that treatment can be started at the earliest.

Your treating doctor may require to give you epidural steroid injection. In the meantime, you can take NSAIDS, Naproxen or Combiflam, one SOS when needed. Always take medicines after taking food. Application of ice packs is also helpful. You can consult a physical therapist, you may require to do a few stretch exercises.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
