What Causes Cloudy Mucus Tinted With Blood After Copper Iud Was Inserted?

Hi, I had a surgical abortion 5.5 weeks ago and had a copper iud inserted. I am still experiencing some spotting, but three days ago I noticed that I had very thick, clear/ cloudy mucus tinted with blood. This went on for two days and then there was light pink spotting again. I took a pregnancy test, since the mucus resembled mucus plug, and it came back faintly positive. I repeated another test the following morning and it was again positive. Am I pregnant again or is this a combination of remaining HCG in my body and the IUD causing the mucus?

Hi,
The hCG levels may remain raised for about 2-3 weeks after an abortion and going by that standard, you could be pregnant again. To clarify, please get a trans-vaginal sonogram to see if any gestation sac can be located; also get serial serum beta-hCG titres to see if there is a doubling titre every 2-3 days which indicates a fresh pregnancy. If pregnancy is confirmed, you need to get the IUD removed and plan future management. Please see a specialist for further guidance. Wish you good health.
