Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Clumy Stools With Frequent Urge To Pass Stools Post Colonoscopy?
I have had a colonoscopy two weeks ago. Since then my stools have been the size of a conker either exiting sI fly or coming out in a clump. I feel the urge to go even when there is nothing there. I am told I have a colorectal prolapse I think that is the right term and am on the waiting list for an op. Before the colonoscopy my bowel movements were not perfect but not so much of a problem
After a colonoscopy, the flora of the intestines change and can cause a change in bowel habits. You may want to try some probiotics either in the form of a supplement or Greek yogurt with active cultures. The constant urge to pass stools is called tenesmus and occurs because of the cleansing agents used prior to surgery. If it continues, contact your physician for guidance.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Kathy Shattler, Dietitian & Nutritionist
