What Causes Cluster Headache And Swelling In Base Of Skull?

I suffer from cluster headaches. When I get them it seems the glands in my neck and the lower back of my skull swell and are very tender. Once the headache goes away so does the swelling. Is this normal? or could it be the swelling of the glands cause the headache? They seem to happen at the same time and one of the early warnings I get is my throat and ear begins to ach.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

If you are referring to the lymph nodes then they respond to inflammation so it is possible that this is the result that they enlarge during the times you are having your cluster headaches.

They may be enlarging as part of the inflammatory response.

You can consider seeing your doctor to confirm that this is the case.

I hope this helps
