my son is 18 yrs oldhe just turnend 18 for the last 3 days he has congested and coughing up alot of phlem and saying he feels like hes choking on it when he is sleeping just now went to bed after being up for36 hrs straight. he aso had a bloody nose and coughed up some blood and complaining of some pain in his chest from coughing we have no family dr. what can i o to help him please help I also had a mi cerbereal stroke 2 yrs ago in june so can you help find a family r. that takes medicaid we live in Arvada, Co. of of 76 need a close by dr please and thank you so much. Thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. In my opinion you should consult pulmonologist for your son. His symptoms like chest pain on coughing, blood in sputum, chest congestion etc suggest possibility of lung infection mostly pneumonia or tuberculosis. So consult pulmonologist and get done 1. Chest x ray 2. Sputum examination for tuberculosis. 3. Sputum culture and sensitivity 4. CT thorax if chest x ray is inconclusive. If all these are normal then valvular heart disease can be the cause. As it can present with similar symptoms. So get done 2d echo to rule out cardiac cause.
