Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Constant Dull Pain In Neck And Shoulders?
I have always had a dull pain in my neck/shoulders. It is mostly on my right side but carries over to my left. Its mostly just a dull pain like I always have a crick in my neck, but sometimes it gets to where I cant turn my head at all without a shooting pain, like someone is stabbing me, goes through the right side of my neck/shoulder
The symptoms you have mentioned are very common and these are the probable causes of your symptoms: 1) Cervical spondylitis 2) Cervical disc degeneration 3) Brachial plexus compression 4) Brachial plexus injury 5) Rotator cuff injury
The exact diagnosis is made by an MRI cervical spine. For most of the above problems related to cervical disc the following are few measures that can be taken to get rid of most of the pain: 1) Complete bed rest for 1 week 2) Postural correction avoiding excessive bending or extending cervical spine 3) NSAIDs like tab Ibuprofen to reduce inflammation and these can be used along with muscle relaxation like a) Chlorzoxazone 4) After reduction of pain, neck muscles strengthening exercises are to be done under supervision of your physiotherapist
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
