What Causes Constant Eye Discharge From Left Eye?

Good afternoon. I have a Siberian Husky and he has some discharge coming from his left eye. I also noticed some of he hairs stiffen or sticky right around his eyes, not bad. I have been washing the hairs around the eyes and then adding a little bit of Vasoline? My e-mail address is YYYY@YYYY .
