What Causes Continuous Cough And Chest Cold After Discontinuing A Diuretic Medication?

I have had a cough now for three months. It seems that I am being reinfected with a chest cold. I have been on diuretic medication for a few years but stopped taking it about three months ago as my ankles do not swell in the winter. Is this a coincidence or could it be the cause of my continual cough?

Hello, Thanks for consulting HCM.
There is possibility of link with your diuretics. Firstly your age if indicated and for the reason why you were taking diuretics and the cause of your ankle swelling could have helped me in assessing in better way. One reason how stopping of diuretics could have a link to your cough - is that, may be your ankle swelling was related to your heart function. If it was then by stopping your diuretics there may be mild swelling in your lungs due to your heart function and that could lead to your cough, which is not associated with fever. Any infection or reinfection - whether bacterial or viral - would have caused fever.
The other cause of cough could be associated if your had started any anti hypertensive drug.
I would suggest to get hold of a physician and clear it out. You may be advised to undergo a chest X-ray and some blood test - to r/o any infection in the chest. 3 month cough is a matter to be investigated and my advise is to get it done as soon as possible.
Be Healthy.
