Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a pain under my left rib cage which has been there for about 20 years. I've never had any other symptoms other than the constant pain that feels like a cramp. My mother and daughter have the same problem. Have you ever heard of this before?
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have cramping pain below the ribs. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like indigestion , acid reflux , kidney stones , pancreatitis , costochondritis , broken rib , disorder in the lungs or angina pectoris. I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper diagnosis . Doctor may order x-ray along with physical examination . Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant along with anti inflammatory and recommend physical therapy . Doctor may immobilize the rib with bandage in case of broken rib . Doctor may refer you to chest specialist in case of chest infection and cardiologist in case of angina , which is rare chance in your case . For now apply warm compresses to ribs , do deep breathing exercises and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
