What Causes Cramps In Toe Radiating To The Feet, Calf And Arm?

Yes I am 60 years old and was sitting in recliner when a cramp started in my right toe, radiated through the foot up the inside of the calf all the way to groin area and the upper arm. It lasted at least 5 minutes and was very painful, I had to stretch little my little before I could put weight on foot to walk. What could cause this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Based on the description, it appears that you have experienced such symptoms pertaining to neuromuscular system mainly due to calcium and electrolyte disturbances.
It can be overcome by doing the following:
1. Take calcium supplementation in the form of capsules or syrup regularly. Also consume calcium rich foods like milk and ragi products.
2. Supplement electrolytes by consuming oral rehydration solution (ORS) and drinking tender coconut. Also, consuming citrus fruit juices would also help.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best and wish you good health.
