I can appreciate your concern and distress especially given the strong history of ovarian cancer in the family. The first thing that we need to establish is that what was the histology of the ovarian cyst that was removed. Surgery itself can lead to postop pains, however given the intensity of pain you are reporting, we need to know that it was not an endometriotic cyst. Endometriosis can be very painful but it takes time to develop. Sixteen seems to be a young age for this, but if one starts their period early, it is a possibility. What is more common in young age group is ovulation pain and cysts that form on ovaries as part of normal ovarian function. I suggest visiting a gynaecologist with ultrasound and operation and histology report. It would be possible for them to review the situation in entirety along with examination findings. Also the blood tests to screen for ovarian cancer can be arranged that can test for genes that make a person more likely to have ovarian cancer or not, in presence of a strong family history.
