What Causes Dark Slimy Stools?

My 7 year old daughter who has habitual constipation since the age of 3, has been recently getting regular with her bowel movements. 3 days back she had loose motion, I gave her Econorm (282.5mg Lyophilized Saccharomyces, equivalent to 250mg yeast) once for two days and Sporlac half tablet twice daily. She passed watery stools once today and now, before sleeping she passed black oily stools. I found this alarming. What exactly is happening, can someone help please! Her body weight is 17 kg

Pediatric Hemato-Oncologist 's  Response
Hi,

Be sure first if the color is actually oily black or dark greenish. If it's black, it needs urgent attention and workup as it can be due to a bleed. Intermittent dark green loose stools are common in diarrhea in younger children but for a 7 yr old girl, it is better to get her evaluated with your pediatrician without delay.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Amit Kumar, Pediatrician
