What Causes Delay In Periods With Negative Pregnancy Test?

I am a 41,almost 42 year old female. I am always regular with my monthly cycle. It is always 28 days, I am now five days late with a negative pregnancy test. Have only taken one test the first day I missed and did not use morning urine. Could I be starting perimenapause?
