What Causes Delayed Menstruation After Discontinuation Of Norethisterone?

Came off Norethesterone and had period 3 days later. Roughly when will my next normal period occur, should it be in 28 days time? The reason I ask is because I m getting light bleeding which has started a couple of days after the initial period had stopped

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there and thanks for using HCM.

Norethisterone is a synthetic progesterone often used to delay periods. Once it is stopped, the level of progesterone in the body falls and menstruation can be expected.
Side effects of norethisterone include bleeding and spotting in between periods. There is no guarantee that your next period will occur in 28 days. Some women may skip a cycle after using this medicine - if this happens, do not worry. If you are sexually active and are not trying to conceive, use contraception. The light bleeding that you are experiencing is normal.

I hope this answers your question satisfactorily. Thank you.
