Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My period is now 5 days late and its very concerning. However, i will get the normal cramps for about 30 seconds a piece. Yes i am sexually active. The first time was maybe 2 months ago, unprotected. I received my period after that. I had sex again, unprotected. I was due for my period already but it hasn t came on. Although, i have been under a lot of stress lately and im having no signs of pregnancy.
Stress may cause delay or miss periods. The mechanism is not known exactly but possibility stress certainly plays a role in suppressing the functioning of the hypothalamus, which controls the pituitary gland — the body's master gland — which, in turn, controls the thyroid and adrenal glands and the ovaries; they all work together to manage hormones.
Also keep an eye on other possibilities like infection, pregnancy or hypothyroidism or anemia, etc. Please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
