What Causes Delayed Periods While Using Birth Control Pills?

I m sexually active, so I started taking birth control pills last week on Tuesday. I was supposed to get my period on Sunday (three days ago) but I missed it. I took a pregnancy test last Tuesday but it was negative, I m assuming that s because I didn t miss my period yet. Could I be pregnant, or is the pill making me miss periods?
