What Causes Depression And Fatigue While On Levothyroxine?

I am 71 yrs old.I started out on synthesis when diagnosed with hypothyroidism at aged 64. I was changed to levothyroxism 25 mcg when trade brand became so expensive. I have started exhibiting hair, nails, no engery, depressed mood swings.extreme weight gain ,constant craving sweets within 2 month ago when I increased my 25 mcg to 2 tabs of levothyroxism Instead of 1 tab. My symptoms have magnified. Am I the cause of my symptoms or could it be the generic brand.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It may be the generic but your thyroid hormone levels would need to be checked to see if they are normal.

If they are low despite the use of the generic then you may need to be changed.

Some persons respond differently to generics versus brand. The inactive ingredients in the generic can cause a problem.

It would be best to speak to your doctor about the medication.

I hope this helps.
