Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had my gallbladder out about 2 1/2 years ago and had a fundoplication in January. I have had loose frothy stools since. Sometimes very urgently. Loud, gurgling sounds from my intestines, so much so that it wakes me up at night. Should I be concerned? I am also going to see a liver doctor on Tuesday because during my fundoplication they found I had an enlarged liver.
It may be due to gastritis, irritable bowel syndrome, postcholecystectomy syndrome, malabsorption, food intolerance etc. Avoid spicy food and alcohol, avoid smoking and caffeine drinks. Use tablet Pantoprazole before breakfast for one week. Avoid lactose containing food.
Drink plenty of water and eat soft diet. Fundoplication rarely causes gas bloat syndrome in which stomach is bloated with gas which may decrease the venous return to stomach leading to necrosis of mucosa.
Please get an upper GI endoscopy and stool examination done. If symptoms do not improve, please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu , Internal Medicine Specialist
