Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi.....I just arrived home from Mexico....spend 2 months there this winter. About a week before leaving I experiences a day of diarrhea and green liquidy stool. I took an immodium that stopped the diarrhea but the green stool persisted for another few days. Is there any cause for alarm that I may have a liver or gall bladder problem?
The normal green color of stool is due to changes that occur to the bile as it passes through the colon.
If stool is passing or has a recent history of passing frequently, it means that the bile may not have the time to undergo the necessary changes required to change it from green to brown.
This should correct itself within a few days.
Green color can also be due to certain foods (green leafy vegetables such as kale , spinach) or dyes.
I hope this helps
