What Causes Dilated Bowel Loops In A Child Having Eating Disorder?

On an x-ray my son had dilated bowel loops. He has no other symptoms; nausea, vomiting, stomach bloat. He has regular bowel movements and is no pain. In addition, he has an eating disorder and is on a basically liquid diet. He does expel excessive gas. What could this be?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Dilated bowel loops can be a sign of mild obstruction in the bowel. As of now laxatives like lactulose can be taken. Include more fiber rich foods to the diet. If symptoms persists or in case fever or abdominal pain better to consult a paediatrician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
