What Causes Dilated Pupil With Memory Loss?

Hello Doctor, hope you re doing great! What I m about to discuss could be nothing but rather to be safe than sorry, as they say. I was having difficulty seeing when driving at night, so I went to an optometrist for an eye test. The specialist indicated that I have a dialated pupil and can mean 2 things, either very normal or the posibility of a tumour. Having this said, I recently talked to my sister about not remebering some things that happened in the past, especially conversations and special occurances, which is a concern for me. I don t know if this can be related. Help and advise would be really appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your day. Rgds Malcolm

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello Malcolm,

The two are not related and there can be "n" number of causes for dilated pupils and please do not jump to conclusion about it being a tumor. The best approach is to consult an ophthalmologist and get examined in a thorough manner. First is to check the vision in each eye with best correction, verify the pupil reaction, get the dilated eye exam done. A few other tests such as radiological tests might be required. Only after that can a conclusive diagnosis be made.

We all tend to forget things from our past due to the hectic life style. It is not necessary for you and your sister to remember the same things. Chances are that she might not recollect a few things which you remember.

Regards
