What Causes Discomfort In Throat Despite Having A Tonsillectomy For Tonsil Stone?
Hi, I had a tonsillectomy 7 days ago as was fed up of years of tonsil stones. I currently feel that same sensation, like there are tonsil stones still stuck there. I presume the cause is temporary post surgical scabs? Is it impossible to get tonsil stones or similar after tonsillectomy?
Hi, tonsilloliths are caused due to repeated infection in which the pathogen and body's defense cells forms a debris, which eventually calcifies to form a hard stone like thing. From you history, i am of the opinion that 1) After tonsillectomy (removal of tonsil gland) there will be no tonsillolith left over. 2) Sensation you feel may be due to healing tissue formation at the surgical site. 3) Adequate oral hygiene, throat gargling with mild antiseptic solution would help to prevent recurrent tonsillolith. Hope I have answered your question. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
