What Causes Dizziness And Excessive Weight Gain?

My husband has been feeling ill for about nine + months. At one time the doctor thought he might have pancreatitis but that didn t get any worse. He lost weight down to l35 at slight frame and 6 ft tall. He gained up to 155 but is losing weight again. Blood work up really didn t show much. He has no energy, is now on oxygen at night which seemed to help a bit, gets dizzy when he has been sitting and gets up or when he drives the car and then gets out of the car he usually gets dizzy. A few times he has fallen during a dizzy spell. I would like to have a complete workup but I don t know what kind of doctor I should call. Our GP doesn t seem to take it too seriously.

Hello,

The dizziness you explained looks like he drops blood pressure by standing up something we call postural drop. However, if we check blood pressure first on sitting then after 2 minutes of standing then there is a difference of more than 10 mmHg in BP we usually consider it as a significant drop.

Causes are a lot but bp lowering drugs ( i wonder if he takes any) and dehydration are common causes. There are a lot more causes including heart problems and brain problems so he needs to see a doctor early.

Your concern is very right. I think the way you shared it here if you would tell it to the doctor he must take it seriously and he can check for the postural drop. A cardiologist would also be a better option to talk.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
