What Causes Dizziness And Headaches?

I have a 3 week old spiral fracture of my fibula and sprained ankle, my injury feels ok not too much discomfort but for the last 3 days I have been dizzy, light headed, sensitive to light, headaches and almost feel drunk when I lay down like the room is spinning a little bit. Could I have complications with my injury causing these symptoms?

Hello,

Dizziness, light headedness, headache is commonly due to side effects of certain medications, dehydration, Meniere's disease, migraine, low blood glucose, blood pressure issues, anemia, etc. It can also be caused by a problem in the inner ear, where balance is regulated. Dizziness is often a result of vertigo. You are suggested to get clinically examined to ensure if your vitals are normal. In the meantime, take adequate fluids (water, juice, soups, etc), stay well fed so that your body electrolyte system is well balanced.

Post - traumatic vertigo and positional vertigo may cause such symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically examined by an ENT, get imaging tests and investigations including audiometry test done to detect the pathology causing you such symptoms. You will be treated accordingly. The treatment of vertigo is commonly medication and/or physical therapy. Take home made balanced nutritious diet. You can take acetaminophen, one SOS after food to ease headache. Avoid stress and anxiety.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
