Hi, I have been feeling dizzy on and off for 3 weeks- got diagnosed with viral labyrinthitis and given prochlorperazine but last night I woke up at 2.30am sweating and the room was spinning REALLY fast. I also have been having a pain behind my right ear and down the back of my neck for a couple of weeks. Is this all just labyrinthitis?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
There are many causes of dizziness. To diagnose an ear cause we do a audiogram to see the hearing. We do a fix hallpike test to diagnose few ear causes. We have to look for the dancing eye movements to see the source of the ear lesion. Viral labyrinthitis generally present symptoms like you have described. If your central vestibular tests are positive then probably you are suffering from viral labyrinthitis. Better get examined by ENT surgeon where he will perform those tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Rajat Basak
