Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 49 year old female who has been having a lot of trouble in the last two weeks or so. I am having brain seizures that cause memory loss for sometimes many hours. I m having dizzy spells all the time and my body is usually tremouring. While this has been going on for a few weeks, I had a major brain injury when I was 21 or 20. I got knocked over by a 120 lb Rottweiler, and had tree metal pins put in my head and was in a coma for five days. Is something relatated to that past event likely related to what s happening now?
Yes it is possible for a previous traumatic brain injury to cause seizures. Would you clarify a few things for me, please?
*do you smoke or consume alcohol? *do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?
I recommend:
- an urgent physician consult /neurologist opinion. - an MRI of the brain. - blood tests (complete blood count, electrolyte levels) - an electrocardiogram and echocardiogram - an ENT /psychiatrist opinion may be required based on the clinical findings.
Please see a doctor as soon as possible. Seizures can become severe and cause brain damage and lead to life threatening complications. Scarring due a previous Injury needs to be ruled out.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Shuba Hariprasad
