What Causes Dizziness And Vertigo?

Hi. For over a month now I ve had constant dizzy spells. The doctor says it s vertigo and I should give it time. I ve only just noticed a grinding/popping noise at the back of my neck when I turn it from side to side. Could this be connected to my dizziness? I m 38, 5ft 11 and around 180 pounds.
