Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Drop In Blood Pressure Level While On Metoprolol Succinate?
I have uncontrolled hypertension, recently started Metoprolol Succ Er 50mg and Amlodipine Besylate 5mg. My BP still averages 140 over 109 pulse 103. I felt like it shot up all of a sudden but when I checked 113 over 77 pulse 94. I have not taken my meds today. This is lower than I ve ever seen it. Should I be going to Er.
The blood pressure value you have had recently is not so low that you need to go to the ER, especially if you do not have chest pain, shortness of breath or heart racing. If you have any of the above symptoms, it is best to see your doctor soon.
If you do not have any symptoms, I would say that you just need to monitor your blood pressure regularly, every day or two. If it continues to show lower levels than it is normal for you then you may need to see your doctor.
Please take your blood pressure machine with, as in some cases there may be lower or higher values due to a malfunctioning blood pressure machine. Your doctor will need to check your blood pressure with his machine and yours to make sure yours is working well as well.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal for further medical assistance.
