Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter is 20 months old n has asthematic allergy and has been taking anti allergy meds like.zyrtec n zatofin for a few months now. She has whooping cough n extremely bad running noze.Recently I noticed when.she gets.up in the morning she Haas extremely dry lips n dried blood all over them. I am extremely worried
As per your query dry and chapped lips in infants is due to dehydration caused by medicine your are taking for allergy. another major side effect of this medication is cough and dizziness. Due to continued dehydration child keeps on peeling lips and leads to formation of bloody crust layer to small blood vessel trauma.
Clean the lips with cold water , apply lip balm to prevent further dryness and ask her to not to lick or pick lips . I would suggest you to consult your doctor again for proper diagnosis and to rule out other cause like some under lying disease . Doctor may alter the dose of medicine or give some substitute . He /she may also prescribe antibiotics . Keep giving child plenty of water to rehydrate body. Don't give or apply any type of steroid without proper prescription as child already taking anti-allergic medications.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
