What Causes Dysfunction Due To Foot Pain?

What might be causing the following foot pain and dysfunction? Forefoot - at and just below the ankle, lateral more than medial. Some pain with extension and flexion, but really bad pain with other motions, such as supinating. Sometimes makes me limp. Feels like a sprain. Started a few days ago, but I remember no specific injury. There is no discoloration, nor any evident swelling. I have done some ice skating, but that s not unusual. Haven t tried to skate since the symptoms appeared. Should this be rested, as in a brace, or flexed and exercised?
