General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms mentioned by you could be because of inner ear problem which is called as labyrinth, or could be due to fluid buildup in middle ear cavity.

Usually, it is due to viral infection or a common cold. For exact conclusion, the ear needs to be examined with an otoscope.

The medication prescribed to you sound fine and they should take care of the problem. It's better if you take a nasal decongestant to relieve the symptoms.

If the symptoms persist for more than three months and/or if pain aggravates, there could be a danger of tympanic membrane perforation, in which case, a myringotomy tube needs to be placed to drain the fluid and relieve pressure. Also, repeated Valsalva maneuver will be of some help to relieve the pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Anupama G Hegde
