What Causes Earache And Pain While Swallowing?
Hi, I ve has an earache since Saturday and have found it painful to eat and swallow. having seen a doctor on Monday I was prescribed amoxicillin and have been taking this. my earache has mostly gone buy it hurts a lot to swallo and I have now noticed three white spots on the back of my throat?

Hi,
Sore throat along with painful swallowing, ear pain and white spots on the back of throat are generally due to infection of throat which may be bacterial or viral. There are many causes of this type of infection particularly streptococcal infection, tonsillitis or mononucleosis are the commonly observed infections.
Viral infections of throat, tonsils or ear do not have any particular treatment as antibiotics do not act against viruses. Therefore self care with taking healthy diet, adequate rest, taking adequate fluids, warm saline gargles, sipping of hot liquids like caffeine free tea, warm water with honey may help in the relief of symptoms. Anti-inflammatory medicines like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen may help in relieving the symptoms of fever or pain. However, bacterial infection will need a course of antibiotics which may be for 10 days or so along with other supportive measures, already described.
