What Causes Earache And Tenderness On The Base Of The Skull?
my granddaughter is 10. History of kidney disease IgA nephritis and hospitalized 2 years ago when hsp occurred with IgA. Friday night she started with ear pain. Sat. some pain then by 9:00pm crying with severe pain. ER doc said very red ear drum gave amoxicillin, prob. swimmers ear. Today that side of face is puffy tender to touch at base of neck up to skull. Eye felt funny and jaw hurts. She did not eat more than a few spoonfuls of food all day. Had me mash mac-n-cheese but still didn t eat.(she loves food) pediatrician said no more amoxicillin, gave drops for 2 x s a day in ear it was infection of ear canal. He didn t see red ear drum. I don t trust docs in this area, worried some other type of infection as she has peeling/eczema like skin behind this ear for a year. wondering about aggravating kidney disease. She has low grade fever and doesn t move much. Exposed to river water and pool water in past 2 weeks.
It may be due to middle ear infection. As of now you can go for simple analgesics like acetaminophen and a short course of antibiotics after consulting your GP.
If persists better to consult an ENT specialist and get evaluated.
Hope I have answered your query.
Take care
