Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just started using Losartan Pot 50mg. this past Saturday. I am experiencing high BP (162/104 Sunday, 173/113 yesterday and 168/111 this morning. I have pretty bad shortness of breath as well. Contacted my MD and he prescribed amlodipine, to begin today with the Losartan. I m concerned as the breathing problem has not dissipated. Should I take the new med and get positive results right away?
You are hypertensive and even after taking antihypertensive losartan your BP is not in normal range. You are having shortness of breath this actually raise my concern to ask few questions do you feel breathing problem while you are lying?
Do you experience any whistling sound from your chest? Do you wake up from sleep during night due to this problem? Do you ever experience swelling in your feet? What is your pulse per minute?
I am asking these questions because high blood pressure with breathing problem indicates there is a possibility of cardiac issue for which you need to add some other medications for that.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Waqqas Shaheen,
