What Causes Elevated RBC Count Along With Chronic Constipation?

hello I am a nursing student and I can t figure out why my patient has increased RBC levels came in for chronic constipation. The only abnormal lab he has besides RBCs are WBCs, fasting glucose, BUN, and hematocrit. Also he has not eaten anything besides yogurt for 2 days

hi.
v need to look into further information.

constipation is not related to elevated Rac count.

1. we need to look into his hydration status. if he s dehydrated, this can happen.

2. u need to look into status of hypoxia e.g., smoking, high altitude, cardiac r pulmonary disease

3. get a peripheral smear done, if microcytic hypochromic picture with elevated Rbc count, think of haemoglobinopathies

3. if it does fit into any thing, c can think of polycytyemia Vera
