What Causes Elevated SGOT Levels?

My sgot level is 52, but my sgpt level is normal, 30. I have had kidney disease (minimal change) in he past although I'm not currently having a relapse. Also, I am 7 weeks pregnant, although I was not pregnant at the time of the blood test. Is thia reason to be concerned?

Hello and thank you for asking HCM.

I have read you reports, and i understand your concerns.

Depending from the range of the laboratories,or the kits that they use, the normal levels of the sgot (AST) are 5 to 55 units and for sgpt (ALT) 7 to 56.
So your levels are normal. Or if by chance the laboratory where you did the blood analyse has the range for sgot (5-40) than your slightly elevated levels can be due to these reasons:
-alcohol
-excessive exercise
-fatty liver
-medications like ibuprofen,Tylenol (paracetamol) ect
-your kidney disease might also rise the levels of sgot.
If i was your caring doctor i would tell you to not worry. You need to do another test after 30-60 days to see if the levels of the sgot are the same, lower or higher.
To help your fat to heal, use these advice:
-have plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables (it helps with your pregnancy too)
-avoid fatty foods. High-fat meats include bacon, sausage, bologna, salami and hot dogs
-Eggs and cheese should be eaten in moderation
-30 minutes of walking each day

If you have any other question, feel free to ask me.
