What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level After Taking Tylenol?

I have had my blood pressure controlled fairly well over many years by using medicines, most recently banecar and metropolol + triamterene/hctz. Recently I have had unusually high readings (180/120). The only changes i can think of are recent knee injections of hyaluronic acid, plus regular daily use of tylenol (up to 2600 mg per day). Can either of these be the cause of my higher readings? I can t undo the injections, but should I stop the tylenol or inquire about upping the dose of the blood presure meds?p

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Acetaminophen (Tylenol) does not interact with medications of high blood pressure as other NSAIDs may do. However, if taken in very high doses it can damage the liver & increase the risk of high blood pressure.

Report to your treating doctor so that the doses can be reduced & blood pressure can be controlled.

High blood pressure can also occur due to Hyaluronic acid injections. Increased Hyaluronic acid has been seen in IPAH, Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension lungs.

Inform your treating doctor & get appropriately treated. In the meantime maintain a healthy weight as per BMI, reduce your sodium intake, do regular exercises, stay away from stress, cut on alcohol, caffeine & addictions if any.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
