Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level And Blocked Renal Arteries?
I have a condition and cannot remember the name. I am having extremely high blood pressure caused by a blockage in the artery going into one of my kidneys and am looking for a specialist but I do not remember the name of the condition. can you help?
The condition is called renal artery stenosis. The underlying causes of blockage of the renal arteries could be atherosclerosis where cholesterol gets deposited in the vessel wall and narrows it. However in young patients it could be caused by fibro muscular dysplasia in which the cells in the vessel walls grow abnormally. The blood flow to kidneys reduces and sensing low blood pressure the kidneys secrete hormones to raise blood pressure.
