What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level And Shortness Of Breath?
My blood pressure spiked last night and short of breath. Lasted about and hour and blood pressure started coming down. Today I feel a little washed out and my blood pressure is fairly low. I do take a small dose of high blood pressure meds. I usually run 150/88 but last night it was 162/100. what cause the spike
Hello. Thank you for trusting HealthMagic with your concern.
I think the spike of blood pressure along with sudden shortness of breath at night may be the start of heart failure. Are you experiencing any symptoms like weight gain, swollen ankles or legs, or increase in heart rate?
I would advise you to make an appointment with your physician as they will be able to do a full work up including chest x-ray, complete metabolic profile and complete blood count. Also they could adjust your blood pressure medication.
In the meanwhile continue taking your medications. Propping up your pillow may help with your symptoms that occur at night and maintain a low sodium diet. I hope I was able to answer your question. Please let me know if you have any further concerns.
