What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Level While On Cartia XT?

I was recently diagnosed at the ER with atrial flutter during an illness with the flu. I was prescribed Cartia XT 180 mg to take until I see an arrhythmia specialist. I usually take my blood pressure before I take the medication each day as I m concerned about my blood pressure being too low. Today my BP was 146/52 so I waited and took it again in an hour. It was then 171/60. I m not sure what s going on but now I m afraid to take the medication thinking it might get too low. I m a little concerned with the readings today. I will see the dr this week.
