What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels And Slurred Speech?

My 80 year old aunt, in reasonable health, has developed slurred speech. She had a very high BP in the MD office of about 200/160 and the slurred speech started soon after. She is otherwise totally fine, but sounds drunk when she talks. Her mental capabilites are fine otherwise. Her BP is back under control but the slurred speech has not resolved (4 months later). Could it be a slight stroke with just slurred speech as the problem, and will it ever go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hello, my name is Dr Olgeta Xhufka. I understand your concern. I think she has had a stroke and since they have passed 4 months it is irreversible and will never go away. She should keep blood pressure in normal range because stroke is a complication of high BP.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help you. Best regards.
