What Causes Elevated Blood Pressure Levels?

Dear Sir, My blood pressure was 230/110, went to urgency care and they admitted me to emergency yesterday. Ran tests EKG and Chest Xray. Shows small amount of damage possibly due to blood pressure although not considered high risk. Long story short, never been on blood pressure medicine, possible genetic. Went to urgent care last week and yesterday raised Lisinipril to 20 mg (after they got my blood pressure down safely to be released). Have follow up on Wednesday. However, my blood pressure spiked this morning to 174/88. My question is, took my new medicine this morning 20mg. What is the time frame that this medicine should begin working or should I just go directly to urgent care/hospital again. Trying to avoid going to hospital and just try and make it to my follow up visit on Wednesday. I am feeling ok. (I am 54 years old, 5 5 , 124 lbs.) Your thoughts please.
